Meditation 1: Mindfulness of body and breath
By focussing solely on a single stimulus, this body and breath meditation helps to settle the mind. The movement of the breath in the body is ideal to focus on as this sensation is always present.
It is recommended by the authors that this is practised six out of seven days in the first week of the programme. This meditation is only eight minutes long so aim for twice or more per day if you can.
This meditation is often useful for focussing oneself on the present moment, putting a brake on stressful trains of thought. This is also useful for general practise of the skill that is meditations — particularly for beginners.

The Hindu-Yogi Science of Breath (1903) by Yogi Ramacharaka
Summary: "The Hindu-Yogi Science of Breath" is a book written by Yogi Ramacharaka, first published in 1904. The book is a study of the science of breath and the ways in which it affects the body and mind.
At the core of the book is the idea that breath is the key to physical and mental well-being, and that by learning to control and regulate our breath, we can improve our health and achieve a higher level of consciousness. The book explores a range of techniques for controlling and regulating the breath, including pranayama, the practice of controlling the breath through specific breathing exercises.
Throughout the book, Ramacharaka discusses the science behind the various techniques for controlling the breath, and offers practical advice for incorporating these techniques into daily lif...

So far, we’ve discussed blood a lot in this series, but take a deep breath in and exhale because in this episode we are exploring the respiratory system.
Breathing is one of the few things we do continuously, every day, without thinking about it.
Our bodies, like other vertebrates, depend on oxygen to run our normal aerobic metabolisms. And though some of our bodily processes happen without oxygen, we still need to burn some oxygen in order to really take advantage of the food we eat. Meaning at some point, we need to start pulling oxygen from the air and depositing it into our red blood cells.
And this biological process really depends on nothing other than good old physics. Those ideal gas laws you might have learned in high school? Dalton’s law? We see a beautiful example of them in the simple act of taking a breath.
Find out more about all the hardware involved in breathing; why oxygen is so important; and how we pluck it from the air around us in this Human.

The whole point of breathing is so that our tissues can consume oxygen and glucose and turn them into energy, leaving water and carbon dioxide as waste products. This process called cellular respiration is essential to anything that breathes oxygen. And if our tissues don’t get enough oxygen, or experience hypoxia, they can start to die off or see other problems.
There are a bunch of reasons that a tissue might not get enough oxygen — like an iron deficiency might cause anemia, which means that less oxygen will be able to ride on each red blood cell and oxygenate your tissues. Hypoxia can also happen if there’s not enough blood flow to a tissue, like when an artery is too narrow and doesn’t deliver as much blood to its target tissue. Then there’s high altitude where oxygen isn’t as easily available.
High CO2 levels in our blood, or hypercapnia, can cause symptoms like headaches and dizziness, but also more severe symptoms like paranoia, irregular heartbeats, and seizures. Hypercapnia can happen without breath holding too, like if you’re in a submarine or just a stuffy room with the windows closed. Since neither hypoxia or hypercapnia are ideal, our bodies are constantly measuring and reacting to oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood. That’s where the carotid bodies come in, receptors embedded in the carotid artery in your neck that are triggered by certain chemicals.

Rebounding is the next (and last) hottest trend because it accomplishes everything all at once. Strength training, cardio, flexibility, physical therapy, rehab, lymphatic health, improved organ function, elevated mood, better sleep and so much MORE! Jumping is fun, sustainable and powerful, so we need to ease into our Jumping experience with curiosity and understanding. The up and down motion gets everything moving, including stiff joints and toxic build-up. When joints are opening and toxins are flushing, we need to start slow, stay hydrated and have patience. This healing and cleansing period will set the foundation for your entire jumping experience. Once you get into your groove, the sky's the limit.
